29.2

Orange Juice and News
[by S. David]

We awoke to bright lit
Stark shadows cutting the ground.
Up the block,
Kids played on the street.

Across the orange juice-
Out of our window,
We watched them
Pause
To let cars go by.

We could almost feel the heat
And light
Hammering them
Into monuments
To the morning.

And then the day’s paper
Came.

She said, “But let’s go to the park.”

I said, “To watch people,
When the paper’s unread?”

She said, “Shall we always be so
Ritual?”

So I burnt the morning paper.
