The Broken Fence
[by S. David] [art by Mike Cockrill]

Oh she knows
Alright
Exactly
What she’s doing
She knows
Her friend’s
Younger brother
Is peeking too
It’s not
All innocence
Lying there
Dress falling
Down past
Nubile breasts
Rising up
To her waist
While she seems
To be flower
Gazing
He’s ten
Eleven
She’s twelve
Practicing
Sexteen
Seventeen
Behind
The broken
Fence

We’re All in Love 1
[by S. David] [art by Jacques Tange]

Sooner or later
One way or another
Someone Something
Takes and enters
Our hearts
But I speak to
Romance and
Romantic love
And the sighs and
Dreaminess
The disappearing
Into the fantasies
We have of our love
And so she sat
Lunch break
Summer a rooftop
Lost in her dream
Of her lover
And the evening
To come

7985 Joker
[by S. David] [art by Marina Bozin]

Is this God
A God
God as
Joker as
Trickster as
Tester as
Creator of
Angels even
Humble Angels
And He calls
Down Light
Holds up
A hand speaks
And another
Angel appears
And He tasks
Each with tasks
Of difficulty
Of impossibility
Of incomprehensibility
To we mere mortals

8200 Tainted Covenant
[by S. David][art by Jon Enigma Jaylo]

The deal
Too good
To be
Right
You are
Are you
The “sucker
Born
Every minute”*
No you’re not
Too smart
So come
Sign
On the dotted
Line
He was no
Snake-oil
Salesman
Selling
A tainted
Covenant
He was
The snake
Itself
And you
My friend
Signed
Away
Any chance
Any rights
Any recourse
Of course
Country hick
Thinking
You’re slick

8198 A Never Ending Hope
[by S. David] [art by Jon Enigma Jaylo]

As Diogenes found
The search for
An honest man
Enlightenment
Is never ending
So too Tantalus
And
So the carrot
Before the horse
Yet hope springs
Eternal
And the one
Who knows
Is the one
Who knows not
‘Gowin fishin’
And this fish
Follows but
Cannot bite
The prize
Always
Out of reach
But the road
Leads on
Let the traveler
Be eased
Hitch a ride
At least
No Jonah
Inside

8187 Woman with Dandelion
[by S. David] [art by Paco Vera Puig]

I had to look
Close you see
Sometimes
The images
The art
Is not easy
On the
Interpreting
Eye
And I thought
She was
Levitating
No that’s
Another
Picture
She’s nude
I think
On a stool
Perhaps
Getting ready
To do a
‘He loves me
He loves me not’
With
The dandelion
She’s holding
But
Her hair
Hangs below
Her waist
She’s lovely
But
What a waste
She’s not
Here
With me

8179 The Dream
[by S. David] [art by Liviu Burlea]

Cigarette dream
Fueled by
Exhaustion and
Need
Hung over
It mattered not
The day’s passing
Time could be
Sidestepped
Easily
The ashtray
Placed exactly
Cigarette
In hand
Eyes closed
Inhale then
Let the smoke
Escape
A cloud above
Your head
Dream
Do not
Open your eyes
‘Til the cigarette
Burning down
Burns your hand

8095 Listen to the Wind
[by S. David] [art by Liviu Burlea]

She stood before me
Wind blowing her hair
I can’t forget
That day
We had driven
Out to the country
A state park
We walked a bit
To reach
An overlook’s edge
She turned to me
Behind her flat land
Spread out
From the woods
We had passed through
It was our third date
A fall date
She looked at me
A quizzical look
On her face and
Unbuttoned her blouse
Her breasts
Were full
I held my breath
I had wished
I had hoped
I had not
Expected her
To match my needs
A few moments
We were wrapped
Together
I asked her why
“Listen to the wind
If you want to know”
And it spoke
To our bodies

8092 But I don’t Believe in You
[by S. David] [art by Nick Harris]

There are
Other places
Not here
But there
Other places
Other worlds
Other dimensions
Some to be reached
Science
Some to be reached
Spiritually
Some to be reached
Stepping across
You can
Just
Do it
Look see
Ah but what
Happens when
Two from
Different and
Neither
Ours meet
Come
It happened
A mysterious
Place whose
I will not tell
But listen
As Death and
A Fey first
Meet who
Speaks does
It matter

8080 Anyone for a Snowball Fight
[by S. David] [art by Nick Harris]

The hell you say
Well this is it
Hell my friend
You’ve arrived
Reached the goal
You’ve long sought
In word and deed
And it’s worse
A demon greets
You at the maw
No St. Peter here
Torments await
But a new one
A cunning one
To tease not even
Hurt you
You’ve said it
So many times
Look around
Here before you
Enter
Here it is at
The portal
Hell seemingly
Frozen over enjoy
The entrance
To your worst
Dreams but
Right now
Anyone for
A snowball
Fight

And they pervade
Your body
Your being
Your posture
Your carriage
Your face
When emotions
Run strong
Run hot
There is
A set
To a person
Others
Some others
Can see
Perhaps it is
That mysterious
Body glow
And here
In the pool
In the bath
He looked
At her back
And he knew
She was yes
She was
In love
But was it
With him

A loss of
Innocence
For you are
You are
And butterflies
Ecstatic
Butterflies
Flitter
Though
Tasted
You still
Taste
Of that
Joy that
Beguiled
Smile love
Bring me

[by S. David] [art by Kristina Carroll]

But she came
To earth
No it couldn’t
Have been on
A mission
From above
The God is
Not that cruel
No she must
Have come
On vacation
Fell in with
The wrong crowd
They must have
Converted her
Perverted her
Or was she
In reality
A human
A woman
Named ‘Angel’
On yes an Angel
Angel of
The Night
A sinning
Tattooed
Bitch who’ll
Spread and
Make you pay
To play
Or else
Or maybe
Just ‘or else’

In her veins

She had fallen
She had loved
In nightdark
His home
His dwelling
Heavy drapes
Had blocked
The day
The light
She had stayed
A night
A day
And the lust
The sex
Too powerful
Too much
Lust
Blind Lust
He was in her
And caresses
And kisses
Became nibbles
Became a bite
And she left
Bleeding

Together
So long
Treading no
Dancing on

Together
Yellow bright
Red fire
And now
Apart
Separation
Alone in

Behind the Red Curtain 1
[by S. David] [art by Gregory Sanville]

Christ he was afraid
To really speak to her
Couldn’t open his heart
He knew her mother
Didn’t like him trust him
Worth a damn so before
They sat together on
The couch he went over
Pulled the red curtain open
Stepped back in amazed
Disgust sitting in the
Alcove behind the red
Curtain was her mother
He turned back to her
“Did you know” “No”
He took her arm said
“Let’s go let’s leave
Are you ready” and so
She left the house of
Her mother never turning
Back to see now there’s
Definitely a moral here
Somewhere if you
Find it out me know

The Goddess and the Sphinx
[by S. David] [art by Rich Buckler]

It was a meeting
Talked about for ages
Over the ages
Bastet she
Decided to
Go for tea
With the Sphinx
And so one fine day
They made
Themselves
Comfortable
On one of
Those worlds
That cater to
Such whims
A jolly time
Was had by both
So much so
They decided
To go for
A lope
Together
And a mighty
Run it was
Tired they took
Their ease on
A hot world
To get some
Sun in
Seeing them
So relaxed
Was such
A delight
I decided to keep
The memory

Incantation [1]
[by S. David] [art by Daniel Victor]

Aye, they’re witches
Young ones, I could tell,
Their bodies firm,
Juicy, worth dwelling
On, even in, if you’re
One such as I. They
Came that night to
The forest to work
An incantation, deep
Spells to call forth
A denizen of the
Seventh Plane, why?
I was not sure for
A time, but I did
Observe the beginning
Workings, almost
From the start. Naturally,
It was after the very
First spell when they
Undressed and brought
Up the green mist
That I became aware
That they were there,
Trespassing on my land.
At their third spell, I
Took control, took control
Of them and rode
Each one hard and
Long until their bodies
Could orgasm no longer.
In turn, I let each
One rest then took
Them again. They should
Learn to ask an Unseleighe
Lord before they attempt
To use his land.

Conceiving
[by S. David] [art by Anna Ravliuc]

Doorway between
Two dimensions
Two realities
More like between
Fantasy and
Reality
But the Veil
Was thin
And exploding
Into another
World
As if
The door way
Was a womb
Birthing
Full formed
They left
They entered
Snorting in
The new air
Their like
Only stories
From myth
And legend
And one by one
The herd came to
Looked into
An artist’s
Cabin
An artist’s
Forest retreat
Then with neighs
And a flashing
Of tails
The unicorns
Trotted off

What do I want

Why

Refreshed
Renewed
What do I want

Oh here and

Even some
Tenderness
But it was
Not you
Another
Even as
He was in you

Even as

He was a rake

Leave him alone
He did not spend
Many nights alone
And a juggler
So many at once
Until he was found out
Until he was found
And now some of the
Many having compared
Lives celebrate like

Lies on a platter
Jealousy is a
Powerful emotion
Hate is another
They cloud reason
Though not vengeance

Saga [part 1] 1
[by S. David] [art by Michael Cheval]

Attend! Hear! Obey!
Wyrd Sisters take up this decree!
Let Spirit animate flesh!
Let there be a new home
For this Soul!
Let it infuse a body!
Flood a mind!
Time and again
A new thread
In the tapestry
Another interweaving
Let this story commence
Let the saga continue

She haunts me still
She haunted me then
She haunts me now
This is a tale that
Does not will not
And perhaps cannot end
And we are both
Cursed to keep fragments
Of memories a scene
A cameo a moment
In time all interwoven
Into the linked tapestries
Of our Souls

From the high plains
Before the Sarasvati
Disappeared they came
And our first chapter
Was laid down she and I
And then across miles
And time our tale
Continues Pharonic Egypt
Many more centuries
The forests of Gaul
Again time now to
The North and Viking we
Still intersect interweave

Practical Mythology 4
[by S. David] [art by Michael Cheval]

So he nodded off
Drifted into
Light sleep
And dreams
Raced through
His mind
Hurrying
Scurrying
Before he woke
And she came
Springing full
Grown
Like Athena
More like Sin
Appealing
Temping
In and of
Herself
To be worshipped
And he built
A world
Around her
Vested powers
In her
Powers over
Himself
Though he
Was walking
Among Gods
Walking to her
In adoration
Shameless
Adoration
And he fell
Forward
Before her
Worshipped
Awoke
Refreshed

March of the Lonely Hearts [1]
[by S. David] [art by Michael Cheval]

Not I
But I play
For thee
In thy multitudes
That line
To dance
To my accordion’s
Sad music
For love is
On my lap
Her my arms
Surround
And the Gods approve
But thee
Thou lonely hearts
That dance
A march
Through this
World
This mansion
Of beauty
The Gods Willed
To us
Alone
This life
Alone
In line
One behind
Another
Alone

Nocturne 5
[by S. David] [art by Michael Cheval]

And Fate is a joker
A teller of tales
A singer of songs
One in Three
Three in One
Which of the Sisters
Do you give
The name
Depends on what
You believe and
What you know
The Three sisters
Or the One
Whatever
Or Name Her
A Name
A title
A concept
But always
A ’She’
A puppeteer
If you will
What do we
What does she
Know of ‘Free Will’
Coincidence
Synchronicity
Lift your glass
Raise a toast
All dance to
The Piper’s tune
And strings that
Lead us our lives
To that dance and
Perhaps romance

Inanna
[by S. David] [art by Josephine Maisonet]

Danger
Danger
Danger
Inanna’s
On the loose
On the prowl
Again
She’s looking
She’s hot
She’s the pickup
Queen
Inflaming
Men and boys
Goddess
Of lust
And war
She intoxicates
Men
To riot
To battle
She takes on
Entire armies
Takes in
The men
Each leaving
Satisfied
Each contributing
His seed
For a next
Generation
Of warriors

Surfing the Third Rail
[by S. David] [art by Dennis W Bernhardt]

Play with danger
It’s sharp
Gets the blood
Flowing we say
The adrenalin
Pumping
And it takes
A fine balance
To keep from
Being dead
But what a thrill
Playing
On the third rail
Surfing
Balancing
Death
Cheating

The Nerve System
[by S. David] [art by Logan Hicks]

So I’m down again
Here in the underbelly
Of the city the nerve
System and it was
Everyday the same
Thing back then
The Brighton to
The Canarsie line
And school high
School First Avenue
And my friends coming
From all over most
Getting off Union
Square molecules
Traveling to the brain
High school brain trust
And we earned it
Exciting the city number
One years of reputation
Traveling with white
Blue collar workers daily
But we were the brain
Trust of the nerve
System riding the train
The subway that made
New York one and
Number one

Drowned Cathedral
[by S. David] [art by Brigid Marlin]

Come let us go
Seek the time before
Time when man
Fully formed was
Young when the world
Was not as it is
The age before the age
Before the last
Ice age when
The very land was
Different before
The seas took
Into their bosom
A world that only
Legend now knows
Atlantis Mu and
The Mediterranean
Had not appeared
Great works by
The hand of man
Have since dis-
-appeared and Ys
Is no more
Still when the sun
Strikes the sea
At strange angles
Light is cast upon
The seabed
Passing through
Once windows
Of a drowned
Cathedral fish
Swim through
Works that time
Finally overcame

Ancient Future
[by S. David] [art by Olga Spiegel]

Have courage
Walk into
Your dreams
Coffee fueled
Exhausted sleep
Where buildings
Stutter
Porticos come
And stay
From days
You did
Not know
Elements
Suggested
By fantasies
Robots and
Strange biologies
And you look
Into your futures
Create passwords
To recall
Your dreams
The hell with
Sanity
You can live it
Days of
Ancient
Futures
Whatever
World
You choose
